Gift Chikere
Gift Chikere, a performance activist and artist, employs poetry, music, theater, and storytelling to advocate for social causes, amassing five years of experience in her craft. As an ambassador of Street Project Foundation, she aligns with the organization’s mission of using creative arts to foster youth engagement, social mobilization, and cross-cultural dialogue. Street Project Foundation is also a member of the Moleskine Creativity Pioneers Program in Milan, Italy.
She is the mobilization lead for Street Project Foundation’s ARTVOCACY movement in Lagos, Nigeria, engaging artists to advocate for social issues through their art.
She is also a community field officer with Street Project Foundation on the pilot project for the exploitation of Child Domestic Workers.
She is committed to using creative arts as a tool to facilitate social change positively.
In 2021, Chikere received a grant from the SpeakUp, StandOut Program by VOICE GLOBAL to spearhead a campaign titled “Art: A Tool for Influencing Voting Culture among Young People toward Better Leadership.” This initiative involved seventy artists and significantly increased youth voter turnout in Nigeria in the 2023 elections.
Furthermore, in 2022, Chikere participated in the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Conference in Nigeria, advocating for literacy through poetry and collaborating with Poetry President, Robert Chiwamba from Malawi. In 2023, she led a multidisciplinary artist team to victory in the UNESCO Youth Hackathon Program in Paris, promoting the theme “Disagree in Peace” to foster cohabitation and unity among cultures.
Currently, she is leads creative artist in Lagos, Nigeria through the ARTvocacy movement to advocate for social change through arts. She is also UN Youth Ambassador Representative for Nigeria.
She is also the community field officer for the movement against Child Domestic Worker exploitation.
